Front-End Development Manager

We are looking to add an experienced developer, with process-driven management skills, to join our hard-working digital team.

This role is all about delivery. You’ll use your in-depth knowledge of development to get hands-on to deliver excellenceright-first-time, and you’ll use your experience to input ideas to drive the best customer experience across all projects. 

You’ll manage and schedule the day-to-day of the team, working alongside key stakeholders in the wider team to ensure the right people are on the right work, delivering it to time and budget. 

You should: 

  • Be a seasoned developer that likes to keep hands-on, but is looking for more variety and the opportunity to impact projects from beginning to end 
  • Have process-driven management skills 
  • Have presence and ability to influence 
  • Understand the importance of delivering excellence and right-first-time 
  • Have experience in an agency environment 

Your responsibilities: 

  • Planning & scheduling workflow, working with in-house and external developers with varying levels of experience 
  • Working alongside client services, design and UX, in a fast-paced and agile environment to ensure dev’s recommendations are represented and absorbed 
  • Working across multiple client projects at once, each being given the same level of enthusiasm and attention 
  • Responsible for delivering the development milestones across the project lifecycle 
  • Working specifically with UX and design to fact-check the vision to ensure its achievable, as well as giving ideas for the best possible user experience 
  • Working specifically with client services to deliver against dev milestones 
  • Interrogating, collaborate on and Interpret tech specsallocate suitable resource once it’s in agreement 
  • Managing the automated dev support ticketing system, to ensure client’s needs are met within agreed SLA’s 
  • Taking ownership for trouble-shooting and resolving issues quickly and effectively 
  • QC’ing all development work before it goes to client services, ensuring briefs have been met 
  • Experience in managing end-to-end projects that involve development, bringing the vision alive and testing, 
  • Managing the full build rollout process 
  • Managing the monthly site maintenance (updates and security) 
  • Helping to define, implement and champion best practice process 
  • When the need arises, getting hands-on to ensure projects deadlines are met 

Expected skills: 

  • Enviable knowledge of front-end and WordPress development 
  • Excellent management and collaborative skills, with the ability to influence your peers 
  • An impressive eye for detail and a methodical approach to QC 
  • Good JavaScript ability 
  • Good HTML/CSS ability 
  • Good understanding of version control 
  • Working knowledge of a CSS pre-processor, i.e. SASS 
  • Experience with google analytics & event tracking 
  • Good timekeeping 
  • A desire to coach and develop the team
